DB6

DB6

A Very Grand Tourer

282 bhp Power
6.1 s 0–60 MPH

Introduced at the London Motor Show in October 1965, DB6 carried the graceful lineage of DB4 and DB5 into a new, more accommodating expression of Aston Martin Grand Touring.

Its extended wheelbase and higher roofline made room for four, while the unmistakable Kamm tail gave the silhouette a technical edge. The integrated rear spoiler was shaped by wind-tunnel learning to bring greater high-speed stability.

Beneath the long bonnet, a 3,995 cc DOHC straight-six delivered the pace and character expected of the DB name. DB6 remains an elegant meeting of craftsmanship, distance and drive.

The Very Grand Tourer

A longer-legged Aston Martin, shaped for four and built to travel.

Launched in October 1965, DB6 evolved the elegant DB5 formula into a more accommodating Grand Tourer. Its longer wheelbase and subtly raised roofline gave both front and rear occupants greater space, while retaining the unmistakable Aston Martin silhouette. At the rear, the distinctive Kamm tail and integrated lip spoiler brought purpose to the form, reducing rear-wheel lift at speed. DB6 joined performance, poise and practicality in a characterful four-seat Aston Martin.

Design

DB6 was clearly evolved from DB4 and DB5, yet its defining visual change was the sawn-off Kamm tail with its prominent lip spoiler. Wind-tunnel testing showed this design reduced lift at the rear wheels by more than 30 per cent.

Split front and rear bumpers, a redesigned oil-cooler aperture and a raised roofline gave the DB6 a more purposeful, mature presence.

Grand Touring

Built on a longer wheelbase than DB5, DB6 gained additional head and leg room in both front and rear seats. The result was an Aston Martin with the space and composure to serve a wider four-seat Grand Touring role.

The 2,585 mm wheelbase and 4,620 mm overall length created a more practical proposition without departing from the marque’s flowing DB-series form.

Performance

The standard DB6 used Aston Martin’s 3,995 cc DOHC straight-six, producing 282 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 280 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm. A ZF five-speed overdrive manual transmission was offered alongside a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic.

With a quoted top speed of 148 mph and 0–60 mph in 6.1 seconds, DB6 combined effortless long-distance pace with the stability benefits of its aerodynamic rear treatment.
